Longwood Medical Area

The Longwood Medical Area is home to many prestigious hospitals and colleges which attract young professionals and academics from many different fields. While it is most known for its medical facilities such as Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, it is also surrounded by universities like Northeastern, Simmons, Emmanuel, and the Massachusetts School of Art and Design. Longwood also features the world-renowned Museum of Fine Arts and the charming Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum.

Longwood runs from Huntington Avenue to the Riverway. On one end there is Brigham Circle, a hub for a variety of bars, shopping centers, and restaurants. Closer towards downtown, Longwood borders the Fenway-Kenmore area and the Back Bay Fens park.

There are two T stops which service the area, “Longwood” on the Green Line’s D branch, and “Longwood Medical Area” on the E branch. There are also several public bus routes which run through the neighborhood, and institutions will often run shuttles which connect with campuses such as Harvard and MIT in Cambridge.
